5:55 pm - Persona 3
Anyone who has a PS2 and likes RPG's owes it to themselves to play Persona 4. It's one of the best games I've ever played (and longest, about 70 hours), and has some of the best/most surprising plot twists.

And even though it's not terribly cinematic, and animated cutscenes are very few, it's probably the closest thing to an anime... without actually being an anime. There was a half hour cutscene about omelettes.

It's addicting though. Towards the end I was becoming malnourished because I didn't want to stop... because I needed to see what happened next...

Anyway, if you have a PS2, are looking for an RPG (on the cheap!... for a new videogame), and have about 70 hours to kill, I strongly recommend Persona 4. More than Persona 3. And hurry, before it goes out of print and gets insanely expensive, like Persona 3 did before FES came out.

That's all!

9:43 pm - Persona 3
I just thought I'd take a moment to announce to my LJ friends that, after 75 long hours over a year and a half, I finally beat Persona 3 today.

ramblerambleramble... no spoilers )
And, also - JUNPEI SUCKS ASS. If anyone is playing the game and is using him, DON'T! He's completely useless in the end.

I'm happy the snow stopped. I can enjoy it now (as long as the roads are cleared).

I'm also happy that I've been getting back into "Persona 3," which I started a year and 4 months ago. It doesn't really pick up till your about 45 hours into it, haha.

I suppose this happiness meme is a good excuse for me to update my LJ.

1) list one tiny thing that had made you happy today
2) repeat this everyday for a week
3) tag 8 others to do the same

I'm not gonna tag anyone, since most of my friends list has already been tagged. But anyway...

I'm happy that I didn't die on the 1 1/2 mile drive from work to my apartment in the snow today. I briefly lost control of my car a couple times though. I think I need winter tires.

Does that count? Meh.

10:51 pm - My Summer
Hey guys. So I've realized I've been doing a lot of lurking, but not so much posting. So let me just go over everything that's been happening in my life over the past few months.

I'll start with the good. Since mid July, I've been the temp "WordGirl" animation supervisor at Soup2Nuts, which has just been awesome. It's amazing how quickly you learn how to do everything in a short amount of time. It's meant more meetings, and less actual animation, but it's been a fantastic experience. And it's really funny, thinking that 3 or 4 years ago I wasn't sure what I was going to be doing after college, but, here I am. Anyway, like I said, it's a temp position (our regular WordGirl lead animator is finishing up another project), so in about 2 weeks I go back to being a regular "animator." Which will actually be pretty nice I guess, haha.

But, overall, this has just been one of the worst summers I could ever fathom. It started with my Uncle Dwight dying May 30th, which was just terrible. He's the first of my aunts/uncles to die, and it really freaks me out when I think of the fact that he's a couple years younger than my Dad. He and my aunt are from Maine, and they're the only ones who ever come to visit from there. I can't say I was terribly close to him, but I loved him, and I miss him.

Summer ended pretty horribly for me as well. We had to put down my 13 year old dog, JJ, a little over three weeks ago, September 6th. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I don't deal with loss well. But I remember how much regret I had when I tried to ignore the fact that we were putting down my cat 7 or 8 years ago, so I made a conscious effort this time around to spend as much time with JJ before we put him to sleep. Especially since he's my very best bud. So for 3 weekends in a row, I went back to Franklin just to be with him. It isn't much, considering he'd slept in my bed every single night for years and years beforehand (excluding the time I was away at school), but I did my best. And I made sure he slept in my bed for his last night. It was like this reverse mourning process. Anyway, I was there for the injection (the first one, that puts him to sleep- they advised I not be around for the one that actually euthanizes him), and while it was a painful/emotionally draining experience, I'm really glad I went through it. And since I got to spend so much time with him in the weeks prior, I have absolutely no regrets. We had him cremated, and right now he sits in a box on a bookshelf, waiting to be buried. Unfortunately my Dad wants to redo the lawn, so we might be waiting a while before that happens.

Anyway... pretty horrible bookends to a rather blase summer overall. But hey! It's almost (officially) autumn, and who knows what that season may bring. I still wanna have people over sometime. Hopefully I'll get my act together and organize something sometime soon, before winter hits.

7:26 pm - COME VISIT!
I've been working on a freelance project... pretty much since I moved to Watertown in early June. But it's ending within the next week, which means I'll have a LOT more free time. Which means I need to have people over. I need to have my Franklin peeps over too- ALL OF YOU! That is.... all 6 of you on my friends list... and those I've met since then who aren't on here. Some of you I haven't seen in forever, and would love to catch up with.

THIS IS WHERE I LIVE!

It's within a mile or two of the Mass Pike, and it's in a pretty nice area of Watertown. So come visit. Plus I have a sweet new 50" HDTV.

I AM FULLY AWARE OF MY INTOXICATINGLY HIGH LEVELS OF DORKINESS.

YEAH.

Crisis Core update #2:

Just beat the game. And all I can say about the ending (aside from its general awesomeness) is...................

....what an effing tease!!!

(kinda-sorta mini-esque post-credits spoiler, though it doesn't actually spoil anything plot-wise)

Although I only had to beat it the one time to see that.

This is, officially, the best line ever in a video game. )

My first post in 5 months HAD to be about something of this magnitude.

(btw, "FF7:Crisis Core" is a very worthy predecessor to "FF7." Which is much, MUCH more than anyone can ever say about "Dirge of Cerberus," as a successor to "FF7")

For those of you who can't/haven't watch Word Girl for various reasons, go here, and click on 'Watch the Ending!' The Word Girl lead animator and I both did the animation for this short- I did Word Girl, Captain Huggy Face, and the museum curator, he did the Butcher, and the police officers. Check it oot!!!

I've had this journal since January 2002, close to 6 years. And I know some of my friends on here have probably had it for about the same amount of time, if not longer. It's kind of cool that every single post I ever made has been archived, but at the same time, it totally freaks me out. Nearly my entire college life has been documented... and I dunno if I like that (looking back, I wasn't a big fan of myself during the first few years of college).

I dunno. Maybe it's a good reminder of the fact that I have changed (if just a little) since then... but at the same time, there's something about it that just makes me want to wipe it all off the face of the planet.

Plus I have an animation blog now too. Hoorah!

I've decided that "FF7: Advent Children" is an absolutely horrible movie to have playing while you're doing work on your computer. That is, unless you enjoy listening to an hour and a half of grunts, crashes, and various other loud noises.

I know, I'm stupid.

I bought clothes for myself... probably for the first time ever last week. Until then, everything I ever wore I got as a hand-me-down (or the occassional hand-me-up... which is sad), for my birthday/christmas, of free somehow. So I never really had a ... fashion identity, so to speak. Well that's not entirely true. Most of the clothes I had were very muted, dark grays or saturated blues. So when I went shopping (oldnavy.com), I looked to change it up a bit.

One of the shirts I got was bright white, with mustardy-yellow sleeves. Let me just say, I've never worn a shirt with yellow in my life. So when I tried it on today, my first reaction when I looked in the mirror was "holy fuck," and I just started laughing. But it quickly grew on me. I just couldn't believe how different it made me look though.

The best part about it all, is that they all fit me! No more oversized, insanely baggy shirts from my larger brothers for me.

All of the shirts I got have some sort of color on them though, and I believe not a single one is gray. So I look forward to adding the color into my life.

Just 3 days shy of owning it for a year, I finally beat "Okami" today. If it's not a better game than "Twilight Princess," it's definitely just as good (if insanely easy... never died once). For anyone who hasn't beaten it, I highly recommend doing so... if only for the hundreds of pieces of concept art that become unlocked afterwards (that's right, I said "hundreds").

There's a "new game +" feature after you beat it too... but I'll give it some time before I start a new game.

I haven't updated in a while, so I'll just throw out a bunch of random things that have been going on in my life in here right now-

-I don't talk about my job much, but I'm really loving it. It's one of the best things that's ever happened to me, and not even the 2 1/2ish hours of daily driving have gotten in the way of my enjoyment of it, and I'm finally starting to get to know some of my co-workers more, which is definitely cool.

-I've finally started to save money. No more big purchases for me, for real-real this time (not for play-play). ...Unless I decide to get a fancy drawing tablet. I don't have much in the way of bills yet, but then again, I'm still living at home, so while I still pay rent, there's still much room for saving.

-I've decided what my next independent animation project is going to be (3D- w00t), and plan on starting it (episode 1.... muahaha) late August/early September, and having it finished by the end of November. I need some sort of motivation. Maybe I'll reward myself with aforementioned tablet if I finish by then.

-I did a "Zelda: Wind Waker" Link papercraft to spruce up the desk at work. Took about a week, and I'd say a total of 10-12 hours from start to finish.

Picture underneath the cut! )
Not too terrible for a first effort, right? ...Right? .......He's kind of crease-y, but I was using semi-thick card stock.

-I've been doing tiny random animations when I need to take a break from... er, animation at work (I'm a pathetic fool). I did them as responses to random emails I'd get from my siblings. I'd explain the back stories behind them, but it really wouldn't make any more sense, so I'll just post them.

Again, under the cut! )

-I've been helping my brother with graphic design aspects of a website he's working on for his ex-boss who works at some fitness club now, so in return he's buying me Persona 3, and I am very grateful. I uh, just hope I'm able to make the time to play it, considering everything else I want to do.

That's all, really. Oh, and for those in the USA, Word Girl premieres on Labor Day, and then airs every Friday after that on PBS... I'm still unsure of a time, but it's in the afternoon. 4 or 5 pm-ish? I'll get back to you on that. Apparantly around 95% of the PBS stations around the country, and Canada, will be airing it, so that's pretty exciting.

That's really all.

EDIT: Ooh, I just discovered something. If you go to the WordGirl website, after it loads, click on where it says "Premiering September 7th on PBS Kids Go! Watch a Video!" Almost exactly halfway through a video, there's a shot of a monkey jumping off of some ceiling beam things... I animated that! Woohoo!

Really, that's all.

The original giant enemy crab!!!

Unfortunately, the demo ended before I was able to hit its weak point for massive damage.

Oh, and also, I'm really liking the "Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni" season 2 opening. It took me 2 or 3 viewings to get used to the song, because it's a little more traditional than the season 1 opening. I know I'm the only person who watches it, and never shuts up about it... but I figured I'd post it anyway. :D

It's a really good show, if you're into the macabre thing... it has this really great cutsie/blood-curdlingly horrifying juxtaposition thing going on. Here's an example of what I mean... though, a warning, it is a little disturbing towards the end.

I also love how all I really do now is post YouTube videos. Heheh.

w00t w00t, $100 PS3 price drop next week.

I should probably still wait until there's a game I truly want out for it. But it's good to they're budging, and it's a little more affordable now. This happens right after E3 too. It'll be oh so very hard for me to resist. But... I must.

"The Wonder Years" ended tonight (and is starting over right now). Now I'm going to feel this void every time 10 o'clock rolls around for the next few weeks. Uuuuurrrgghhh... Though I feel a little cheated by the ending....

Well. At least I have lots and lots of new anime to keep me busy for a while.

This is what I'm watching now. I absolutely love that song. It's catchy... and haunting... and creepy. The intro in general has to be one of my favorite anime intros.
